Erbert Caceres, MD, is a part of the Springfield Clinic's Cardiology Department with over 20 years of experience providing cardiovascular care in central Illinois.

Dr. Caceres earned his medical degree from the Universidad Nacional Mayor De San Marcos in Lima, Peru and completed his residency at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in Englewood, N.J. He also completed fellowships in both cardiovascular diseases and interventional cardiology at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass.

Dr. Caceres was inspired to pursue a career in health care after watching his older brother do the same. “Seeing him in medicine influenced me and ultimately drew me to this path,” he recalls.

Throughout his medical training, Dr. Caceres explored different paths before finding his true calling. “At first, I wasn’t drawn to interventional cardiology,” he admits. “But the moment I stepped into the Cath Lab for the first time, that was it—I was hooked.”

Drawing on his background in internal medicine, Dr. Caceres takes a comprehensive approach to patient care. “At the end of the day, I’m a firm believer in medical therapy,” he explains. “I don’t take patients for stenting unless there’s a clear reason to. One of the most important aspects of my practice is avoiding tunnel vision—I always look at the patient as a whole.”

Dr. Caceres strives to bring a sense of comfort and reassurance to his patients, especially during difficult moments. “One thing I realized early in my practice is that anyone going to the Cath Lab is experiencing stress,” he says. “If I can lighten the mood by sharing a joke or a kind word, it can make a big difference.”

In his free time, Dr. Caceres enjoys spending time with his wife, exercising and reading.
