Kerrilyn Hewell, MD, provides care with the Women's Health Department and sees patients at Springfield Clinic 1st - 900 Building.
Dr. Hewell earned her medical degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, Ill. She completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield.
With a degree in English, Dr. Hewell chose to pursue medicine after working with her father for a year in a hospital following graduation. "The hospital was such an exciting environment," she says, "and I loved the opportunity to care for people during vulnerable times."
She was drawn to OB/GYN because it combines all her passions in medicine. "It encompasses everything," she explains. "You get the continuity of care with patients, a mix of emergency medicine, surgery and there's truly nothing better than delivering babies."
Dr. Hewell is passionate about working through problems with her patients. "Come and talk to us," she says. "Even if you think something's not a problem, or you think there's no solution, we can usually do something to improve your life."
In her free time, Dr. Hewell enjoys traveling, spending time with family and the Chicago Blackhawks.
