Karen is the coordinator of the Cancer Prevention and Genetics program at Springfield Clinic Peoria. She is a Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner with a Doctorate in Nursing practice. She received her Master’s in Nursing, Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and Certified Nurse Midwife degree from the University of Illinois in 2007. She then went on to receive a post master’s as a Family Nurse Practitioner and a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Indiana State University in 2011, and 2017, respectively. She has served her community as a Certified Nurse Midwife as well as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner. Karen has held appointments as Adjunct Faculty at The University of Illinois, Lakeview College of Nursing, Indiana State University, and Marian University. Over her years as a clinician and educator, she has discovered her passion intersects with teaching and providing preventative health care.
Karen has had the opportunity to provide full scope preventative care as a primary care provider at a Federally Qualified Health Center where she developed a program to offer hereditary cancer screening to the community regardless of their financial means. She has a vast clinical background and understands the importance of preventative care and early detection. It is her hope that we, as a community can impact the cancer rate and improve mortality as it relates to cancer by offering people an opportunity to know and understand their personal cancer risk. Karen provides quality health care with a focus on cancer prevention and genetics.
