About This Provider

Yuchen Kelly Zhang, MD, provides care with the Springfield Clinic's Trauma Surgery Department and sees patients at HSHS St. John's Hospital.

Dr. Zhang earned her medical degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. She completed her general surgery residency at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, and completed a trauma/surgical critical care fellowship at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Mich.

Dr. Zhang's interest in medicine began early. "I’ve wanted to be a doctor since I was four and got my first Fisher-Price doctor set," she recalls. "It’s rewarding to have a career where I can truly make an impact by taking care of people."

Surgery quickly became her passion while studying medicine. "The ability to heal through surgery is incredible," she says. "Surgery often provides definitive treatment, bringing immediate satisfaction in quality and quantity of life."

In her free time, Dr. Zhang enjoys exercising and plans to volunteer as a mentor for young women who are interested in pursuing STEM careers.
