Rakshit Shetty, MD, is a Critical Care physician with Springfield Clinic and cares for critically ill patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Springfield Memorial and St. John’s Hospitals in Springfield. Dr. Shetty joined the Springfield Clinic team in 2018.
With Dr. Shetty, you can rest assured you or your loved one are in the best of hands in the ICU. Dr. Shetty leads quality improvement work, such as ICU care bundles (standardized, evidence-based steps of care) and sepsis management protocols. Dr. Shetty also teaches and mentors residents and medical students as an Assistant Professor at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and was recognized as Faculty Teacher of the Year for resident teaching in 2021.
A core clinical interest for Dr. Shetty is hemodynamic monitoring, tracking how well the heart and circulation are working to guide treatment, often using point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), a bedside ultrasound exam. Dr. Shetty is also keenly focused on clear, compassionate patient and family communication in the ICU and researches effective approaches to ICU communication. Dr. Shetty is also a leader among his team, having previously served as chair of the Critical Care Department for Springfield Clinic. In addition to his medical degree, Dr. Shetty earned a Master of Science in Biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University and is founder and chief medical officer of Cauchy Analytics Inc., focused on non-invasive cardiac hemodynamic monitoring using ultrasound and machine learning.
