Ashis Patel, DO, provides care with Springfield Clinic's Trauma & Acute Care Surgery Department. Dr. Patel sees patients at HSHS St. John's Hospital.

"Growing up, I always had a keen interest in biology and physiology that drew me to the field of science," says Dr. Patel. "Since high school, I knew I wanted to be a doctor because of the joy I got from helping people."

Dr. Patel specifically chose trauma and acute care surgery because of the balance it provides him to be the type of physician who can treat a majority of patients that he will see on a regular basis either through surgery or medical management. He also highlights the human factor in his desire.

"Although my interest in medicine, surgery and physiology is always everlasting, it is the patients that keeps my passion in this field persistent," he says.

Dr. Patel earned his medical degree from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. He completed his general surgery residency at Larkin Community Hospital in South Miami, Fla. Prior to joining Springfield Clinic, he completed his critical care surgery fellowship at Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, Pa.

In his free time, Dr. Patel enjoys hiking, traveling and watching basketball and football.
