Dr. Tomaw's favorite part of practicing medicine is the reason he chose it as a career in the first place: working with people and building relationships with patients, caregivers and their families. Dr. Tomaw was drawn to internal medicine as a specialty because of the diversity in cases he saw as well as the way in which he was able to work directly with patients. "The majority of patients I saw during residency were in challenging socioeconomic situations," he says. "Taking care of my patients is rewarding, not only in confronting the challenges of addressing their health concerns, but also in improving their overall well-being."
