Springfield Clinic Jacksonville is welcoming a new family medicine specialist this month.

Mosam Patel, MD, MPH, received his medical degree from MP Shah Medical College in Jamnagar, India. He completed his Master of Public Health at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C., followed by his family medicine residency at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Mich.

Dr. Patel found a love for family medicine while in medical school because it provided the opportunity to see a variety of patients and treat them in a holistic manner. “When patients come to your office,” he says, “they might come with just one problem. But as a family medicine doctor, you don’t just treat the one disease; you go above and beyond and look for anything else going wrong, factoring in their behavior and social situation as well. The most important part of family medicine is that you don’t only see the patient one time; you follow them, and by doing so, you form a true patient-doctor relationship that can really help make a difference in the patient’s health and life.”

Board certified in family medicine, Dr. Patel can provide primary comprehensive care to the whole family. He likes to work with children over the age of five, teenagers, adults and geriatric patients. He particularly likes to help patients with chronic diseases like hypertension, diabetes, thyroid disorders, kidney disease and asthma/COPD. When he’s not working, he likes to hike, bike, play volleyball, cricket and racquetball and try new foods.
