Springfield Clinic broke ground Sept. 1 on a new 21,811-square-foot medical facility at 551 S. Detroit Ave. in Morton, an investment that will bring its existing Morton services together under one roof and create room to expand specialty care. The building is slated to open in summer 2027.
The new facility will house 36 exam rooms and offer care in pediatrics, family medicine, internal medicine, radiology and laboratory services, along with specialty care. This will unite the clinic's primary care and pediatrics teams already serving Morton in a single, modern space with room to grow.
The Morton building reflects Springfield Clinic's long-term commitment to the communities it serves and its plans to continue expanding care in Morton. Since 1939, this physician-led multispecialty medical group has grown to more than 650 physicians and advanced practitioners delivering care in more than 80 medical specialties across central Illinois.
"As the Morton community grows, we want to grow with you. We want Morton families to be able to get the care they need right here, in their own backyard. That is the standard we are holding ourselves to, and this building gets us closer to it," said Rebecca Birenbaum, chief executive officer of Springfield Clinic.
"My partners and I have been privileged to provide care to Morton and all the surrounding communities for over 25 years. We live here, our children go to school here, we worship here, we call Morton and central Illinois home," said Dr. Shad Beaty, a pediatrician at Springfield Clinic Morton.
Joining Springfield Clinic for the groundbreaking were several local and state officials, including Morton Mayor Jeff Kaufman, state Sen. Sally J. Turner and state Rep. William E. Hauter.
