Springfield Clinic Cardiology is welcoming a new specialist this month with expertise in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology.
Maryna Popp, DO, knew she wanted to be a physician as early as high school when she job shadowed a primary care doctor. “I enjoyed seeing the relationships he’d built with his patients and their families,” she says. Wanting a job like that for herself, Dr. Popp attended the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, W.Va., for her medical degree.
Cardiology was an attractive specialty to Dr. Popp because she knew she wanted to treat patients in the office as well as do procedures. So, she completed her internal medicine residency, where she was chief resident, at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso, Texas, and her fellowships in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology at St. Louis University School of Medicine. “I want to spend time talking with patients and getting to know them,” Dr. Popp says about her new practice with Springfield Clinic. “I want patients to know I’m a good listener.”
Dr. Popp was excited about joining Springfield Clinic because it would give her the opportunity to be a part of comprehensive patient care. She saw the value of having colleagues who specialize in other areas, along with a base of primary care, so that her patients could be seen for any and all of their health care needs. Dr. Popp herself will provide a full scope of cardiology care for conditions that include heart disease, coronary artery disease, heart failure, peripheral vascular disease, heart attacks, palpitations, chest pain, hypertension, murmurs and shortness of breath. Dr. Popp can also do procedures such as catheterization and stent placement.
When she’s not in the office, Dr. Popp likes to spend her time outdoors where she enjoys hiking and playing tennis. She’s also an avid food-lover and enjoys trying new restaurants and cooking in her own kitchen. Learn more about Dr. Popp and the Cardiology team at www.SpringfieldClinic.com/Cardiology.
